The word for today is tears. “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning” (Ps. 30:5). “My intercessor is my friend as my eyes pour out tears to God” (Job 16:20). “I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears” (Ps. 6:6). “Hear my prayer, O Lord, listen to my cry for help; be not deaf to my weeping. For I dwell with you as an alien, a stranger, as all my fathers were” (Ps. 39:12). “And He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away” (Rev. 21:4). “My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, ‘Where is your God?’ (Ps. 42:3). “Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll—are they not in your record?” (Ps. 56:8). “Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him” (Ps. 126:5-6). “For the Lamb in the center of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them to springs of the water of life; and God shall wipe every tear from their eyes” (Rev. 7:17). Let’s sing a verse of “Does Jesus Care?”: “Does Jesus care when I’ve tried and failed To resist some temptation strong; When for my deep grief I find no relief, Though my tears flow all the night long? O yes, He cares; I know He cares, His heart is touched with my grief; When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Savior cares.” Prayer: Lord, Your words to Josiah are words I, too, long to hear: “‘Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you,’ declares the Lord.”
