The word for today is urgency. “We must work the works of Him who sent Me, as long as it is day; night is coming, when no man can work” (John 9:4). “O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name” (Dan. 9:19). “And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—for He says, ‘At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you;’ behold, now is ‘the acceptable time,’ behold, now is ‘the day of salvation’” (2 Cor. 6:1-2). “Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me” (Ps. 31:2). “My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me” (Ps. 31:15). “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps. 118:24). “Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work. Do you not say, “There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest”? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. Already he who reaps is receiving wages, and is gathering fruit for life eternal; that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together’” (John 4:34-36). “And seeing the multitudes, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest’” (Matt. 9:36-38). “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done” (Rev. 22:12). Let’s sing a couple of verses of “Rescue the Perishing”: “Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying, Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave; Weep o’er the erring one, Lift up the fallen, Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save. Rescue the perishing, Duty demands it; Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide; Back to the narrow way Patiently win them; Tell the poor wanderer a Saviour has died. Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.” Prayer: Lord, help me today to live as though this were my last day on earth, knowing that one day I will be right.
