July 3 — Psalm 119:71 It was good for me to suffer, so that I might learn your statutes. Yesterday’s psalm proclaimed, “You are good to your servant” (Psalm 119:65 NET). Now the psalmist says: “It is good for me to suffer.” The reason for this declaration is given in the final phrase: “so that I might learn your statutes.” Peter agrees with this: “Therefore, let those also who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right” (1 Peter 4:19 NASB).
