August 3 — Ecclesiastes 7:13 Consider the work of God: For who can make straight what he has bent?

In our verse for today we have a command and a reason. First, the command: “Consider the work of God.” The reason: “For who can make straight what he has bent?” The New Living Bible paraphrases our verse: “Notice the way God does things; then fall into line. Don’t fight the ways of God, for who can straighten out what he has made crooked?” And The Message paraphrases it in this way: “Take a good look at God’s work. Who could simplify and reduce Creation’s curves and angles To a plain straight line?” Paul tells the Romans: “When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into?” (Romans 9:21 NLT).
